INFORMATION LETTER
ON BALKAN ASTRONOMY

April 2, 2003
  Number  17

Dear collegues,

This issue of ILBA contains information which will remind you of several forthcoming events related to space science.

BELOGRADCHIK 2003

Preparations for this event are advancing "full speed". The original idea of giving the possibility to several teams of serious amateur astronomers from the countries of our region to spend up to a week in Belogradchik, and perform observations is now largely surpassed. There will be a summer school and a competition of research projects proposed by amateurs; the projects will be defended in Belogradchik, and those judged as being the best will actually have time to observe.AN IMPORTANT PRACTICAL DETAIL is that the deadline for registration has been extended to April 30. Details about this event are available in the previous issue of ILBA,and on the web site of the Astronomical Observatory in Belogradchik. The number of possible participants is limited,so if you are really interested do not hesitate to register, especially as registration is possible on line.Once the registration ends, readers of ILBA will be informed.

BALKAN PHYSICAL UNION

This is just a reminder that the Balkan Physical Union is holding its general conference this summer in Vrnjacka Banja in Serbia. Details about this meeting are available at the web site of the Institute of Physics in Beograd, which is: www.phy.bg.ac.yu.

IV SCSLS

This somewhat strange aconym designates the Fourth Serbian Conference on Spectral line Shapes and Intensities, which will be held October 10-15 2003 in Arandjelovac in Serbia. The full announcement from the organizers is reproduced below.ILBA editors would like to present their excuses to the organizers for a late inclusion of their announcement in ILBA.

THE BALKAN ASTRONOMICAL MEETING 2004

Experience shows that our colegues from Bulgaria are very active. Apart the Summer School this summer in Belogradchik, they are trying to organize a Balkan Astronomical Meeting next year at Rozhen Observatory. Included below is a short letter asking those interested in BAM 2004 to pre-register for the event. The formal deadline has been set as March 31,but this issue of ILBA is unfortunately late due to technical problems.

Dear Colleague,

As you may already know, there is a possibility the next Balkan Astronomical Meeting to be held during 4 days by the end of May or June 2004 at Rozhen Observatory, Bulgaria. The observatory is situated in the Rodopa mountain, not far of the towns of Chepelare and Smolyan. The participants will be accommodated at the Guest House of the observatory and the nearest hotel "Rozhen", situated 6km away. The transport between the hotel and the observatory will be provided.

Please, inform us till March 31, 2003 if you are interested to participate. For this purpose, please fill-in the form enclosed below and send it to the address bm2004@astro.bas.bg

This is NOT a deadline for registration! We just need this PRELIMINARY information concerning the organization and looking for sponsors.

Thank you in advance for the interest!

Yours Sincerely,

Renada Konstantinova-Antova,
On the behalf of the Organizing Committee
